Kung Fu?!!

I admit it, I'm a huge fan of Kung Fu movies. I must have at least 25 dvds ranging from 70s ''revenge is a golden blade to Ip man 2.





My logo, created by Sara Morley at Design Postimage is partly inspired by typography and look of Bruce Lee movies.
Now, how does this apply to photography? Undoubtedly, I'm influenced by the esthetics in asian action movies.  such as the frequent use of the wide angle lens. I may, at times quote Yip man when things get difficult. Most importantly, dumplings or chow mein have a tendency to put me in a good mood for the second part of  a day's shoot (Qing Hua dumplings on Lincoln are a serious incentive to work a photoshoot at JMSB).

Je viens de voir le film sur les débuts de Yip man...alors je peux dire qu'une partie de la réponse est Leung Bik (joué par Yip Chun, le fils de Yip man) Wikipédia raconte le tout, mais c'est vraiment plus plaisant de voir les films :)

If you do a google image search on corporate photography, you probably will see portraits of people with crossed arms... I mean, way too much. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against crossed arms. People cross their arms regularly and there is no reason to not portray those people as they are comfortable. Unfortunately, too many photographers associate crossed armed portraits with corporate photography. Corporate photography should should reflect a companies identity. In a modern world, a company's identity should be a little more subtle and targeted than the standard 'Strong, professional and confident'. Let the French Fly!

Depuis longtemps, la gang de l'Archipel voulait s'offrir un road trip de quelques jours ensemble. Le but était d'être ensemble sans ordi et en dehors du studio pour plus d'une soirée. Nous nous sommes dit que tant qu'a y être, aussi bien se donner un défi photo. Fin mai 2012, le dart a atterri sur Portland, Maine. David Simard et moi avons rapidement décidé d'unir nos forces et de faire un vidéo.  C'est David qui eu l'idée de faire un reportage sur les francophones du Maine. Quelle riche histoire! Avec un peu de recherche et de courriels, nous avons réussi à tourner les images et entrevues en deux jours. Il y'a eu la pluie, les lendemains de veilles, des rencontres manqués et beaucoup beaucoup de belles surprises. Je vous dirais que le résultat est presque qu'un exercise de style: comment faire un reportage en deux jours sur un sujet aussi riche d'histoire. CIRQUE ÉLOIZE

An epic day! Canadian Geographic has sent me to Shawinigan, where Cirque Eloize is rehearsing their latest show. The day's shoot begins with two top calibre acrobats, followed by trapeze artists practicing their routine 25 feet in the air. Impressive! But the high point comes a bit later in the afternoon. Rehearsals have moved to a nearby wharf and the sun is going down. Copper-hued light and a cinematic setting, as Maud, the young debutante, practices sword work with her choreographer, a kung fu master. Kung fu!
